A fashion-fuelled cabaret
About GT Nash
"La voix de GT Nash est vraiment une découverte" —JazzHot, Paris
Endowed with a voice that has been described as “somewhere between red wine and scotch” (allaboutjazz.com), GT Nash has also been praised for her “fine sense of swing and flair for jazz phrasing” (ArtsWest). With a repertoire that flips from the Great American Songbook to songs by contemporary artists and groups including Tom Waits, Suzanne Vega, Elvis Costello and Aztec Camera, Nash is a vocalist with true breadth.
In 2024, she created a cabaret show, In These Shoes, based on her two lives: fashion writer by day, jazz singer by night. The show made its debut at the Perth International Cabaret Festival, in the beautiful Downstairs at the Maj theatre. With accompaniment from musical director Josh Haines, the show has since been performed to sell-out audiences at the Sydney Fringe Festival, with more festivals in the pipeline for 2025.
Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Nash relocated to London in the 1990s, and has been based in Sydney since 2000. Her debut album, After Blue (2003), prompted Michel Bedin of JazzHot to declare her voice “truly a discovery”. She has studied with jazz luminaries including Helen Matthews (Perth), Ian Shaw (London) and Kerrie Biddell (Sydney).
She has performed at venues across Sydney, including Wine Banc, Opera Bar, The Harbourside Brasserie and Side-On Café, and in Perth at The Ellington, Mello House and the Hyde Park Hotel. In London she performed at venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza on the Park, The Space, Soho Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, and in 1998 took her cabaret show Madison Page Dares to Ask, What is This Thing Called Love? to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She also performed at Val Doonican’s 70th birthday party, which possibly pleased her parents more than any other achievements.
